Time – Finduilas POV – 1 of 1
In which we learn it is not time, but is both too soon and too late.
Also, it is too dry.
When I looked at the various timelines and genealogical chronologies, I realized that Thengel dies in the same year as the attack on Umbar, and I decided to put his death first, leading off the year. As you will see in the next chapter, it has caused things to happen out of order. This mistake will lead to others.

State – Finduilas POV – 5 of 6
In which the ship of state, affairs of state (carnal and bureaucratic), lying in state, what state is someone in, the state of affairs, what is static and what is not are all considered.
Finduilas is frustrated with Denethor and deeply shaken by other events. They are trying to figure out the balance between them, now that they are husband/wife as well as friend/Alquallë. The immediacy of politics displaces their uncertainty over more personal things.

Between – Finduilas POV – 3 of 6
In which Finduilas spends the last few days between her old life and her new. Tales are told, dreams occur, and wishes come true. Politics and portents abound.
This is a bridging chapter, wrapping up a few narrative odds and ends and laying the groundwork for what’s to come next. Kind of like getting ready for a wedding. Maiaberiel is in for a nasty surprise is all I can say.

Cunning – Denethor POV – 6 of 6
In which Denethor does inadvisable things in towers.
Denethor’s rebellious streak is on full display through this chapter, as well as his simultaneous intellectual brilliance and “Doh!” cluelessness. This is the guy who decides it is a Good Idea to stand in front of a charging Mûmak and try to hit it in the eye, after all. Thorongil isn’t the only one who wants to call him names.

Foundation – Denethor POV – 5 of 6
In which Denethor contemplates towers, fortresses, northern rangers, distant lands, nearby ruins, peach pits, cobblestones, greatness, contentment, an inland sea, contests of the past, and the tales told by stone.
And, no, I am not the slightest bit repentant for that line.
