Vinitharya – Denethor POV – 2 of 2
In which mistakes are made.
Chapter action takes place between early June, 2986 and mid-October of the same year.
Hallowed – Finduilas POV – 1 of 1
In which a snake slithers in, a prisoner is paraded, the Rohirrim show off, an inquiry is launched, a gift is offered, a fate is pondered, a friend is mourned, a queen triumphs, hope trumps certainty, and someone we love dearly is destroyed.
On hallowed ground – a temple, a sacred place, a marriage, a friendship – choices must be made. When there is no right to be chosen over a wrong, how do you decide?
Used – Denethor POV – 1 of 1
In which Denethor considers how to make use of surveys, purges, weddings, soldiers, spies, mercenaries, kin, and, most of all, peace.
He’d prefer not to think of all the beings making use of him and Finduilas. He really does not want to think about who may be making use of a certain sister.
Time – Finduilas POV – 1 of 1
In which we learn it is not time, but is both too soon and too late.
Also, it is too dry.
When I looked at the various timelines and genealogical chronologies, I realized that Thengel dies in the same year as the attack on Umbar, and I decided to put his death first, leading off the year. As you will see in the next chapter, it has caused things to happen out of order. This mistake will lead to others.
Claims – Finduilas POV – 2 of 3
In which Finduilas has to think about claims made, what someone claims is so, what counts as a claim, how one can be claimed, and how the claims of the past weigh upon the choices for the future. Not necessarily in that order…
A lot of Thorongil and Denethor in this chapter, and a major cliffhanger at the end. Ivriniel and Luinil also have major appearances, and we get to see Denethor show off his archival chops yet again. A lot of gap-filling going on. In some ways, this is a chapter about Thorongil/Aragorn, and Finduilas just happens to provide the perspective.
