Ch. 80 – Exiles

Exiles – Finduilas POV – 2 of 2

In which Finduilas ponders those who are sundered from that which they most desire.

It is becoming clear that accidents … aren’t.

This chapter takes place from December 2984 through June 2985. Denethor is doing some daring things to cement his rule and any number of lords are unhappy about it.

I took the opportunity to do a little bit of gap-filling with a letter from the past, as well as talk about the everyday violence society’s outcasts endure. I find Madam Morwen a wonderful tonic to the usual rosy-eyed view of Olde Time Life.

Five more chapters after this.

  1. Madame Morwen is indeed a good tonic… once again I like your subtle treatment of her profession.

Heh, yeah, that’s one way to ensure a curse has effect — send your goons out far and wide to make sure it does.

  2. Well, to Maiaberiel’s credit, she *is* a true daughter of her house and is very good at what she does.

I like Morwen because she is an unapologetic business woman in one of the few professions a social outcast like herself is allowed to enter. She has no illusions about morality (namely, that it is a convenient way to shame people into complying with your wishes) and consistently upends all of the self-exculpating claims made by those who make use of her and those she manages. She also is a perfectly normal person who loves her children and wants them to be safe and happy.
